Not huge into the hardcore scene; especially with the type of “dancing” one does in the pits. Involves a lot of arm swinging and kicks (see below) . Not my cup of tea. But I can’t get enough of these guys. The missus even said this was her favorite band she’s seen live with me, and she’s seen everything from KoRn to Behemoth to Slayer.
The crowd in general were all respectful and energetic , though! I’ve been to shows everywhere from Chicago, to Indy, to Detroit, and every city has their collection of idiots that take it too far and start throwing actual punches. Ruins the fun for everyone. I was very impressed with Cleveland’s scene.

Although I haven’t been to a hard core show since the 90s it used to escalate quickly.

It’s always the smaller, skinnier ones doing the swinging too. The deeper hardcore shows like Eve ry Time I Die see an abundance of these guys. Looks like a karate seminar. It doesn’t look good behind any genre.

That’s me with Roger Miret, Jasta and Howard from Killswitch. Met Jamey Jasta a few times, enough that he recognizes me now, lol. Hatebreed is my all time favorite band, seen them probably 20 times since 1999... super stoked to see them here in a couple of weeks, and I’m road tripping to Vegas to see them with Dropkick Murphys this fall. DESTROY EVERYTHING!!!!

My friends and I used to put in mouthpieces and tape our hands at hardcore shows just to beat down those kung fu flailers. Assholes.

I’m a big hardcore/metal dude, and if you like Hatebreed, I’d recommend checking out Terror too. If Agno stic Front and Hatebreed had a baby, it would be Terror...

Haha. Better learn to get along with hardcore kids now that you’re in AZ. We’ve been known to poke .45” holes in people who show up to hardcore sho ws and can’t get along. We were always outnumbered at Hatebreed shows, and they never let us take guns in, so I guess you’re gtg there.
It was always funny when guys who were used to going to Hatebreed type shows showed up at a small venues . They soon realized that a good portion of the kids were armed and that there were no frat bro security guards to save them. Watching roided out bros sit in the back of a venue too afraid to mosh was always funny.

Terror’s newest album, Total Retaliation, absolutely CRUSHES man. My gym playlist is all Hatebreed, Terror, Jasta and a little Jinjer for good measure. Needless to say, the gym has been going pretty well, lol!

Lol, I do the smaller shows brother, grew up with a mowhawk in the 80’s, fought a lot of skinheads and EVERYBODY at school. My generation invented moshing!

Sorry, was a little wound up when I wrote that.
The history of moshing aside, while sucker punching kids who are dancing at a metal show may be acceptable, doing so at a hardcore show is not, and will illicit a much different response, especially if guys you’re own age are there.
Not sure where you grew up, but Arizona has kind up cemented itself as a place were outsiders can’t come in and beat people up (because half the kids at shows are armed). This ain’t the ‘80s anymore, as an unlucky FSU member found out.

No sweat bro, I took no offense! Those FSU guys are just a bunch of dicks who couldn’t get into a fraternity... I have seen Agnostic Front probably a dozen times going back to 1988, love me some Madball, Judge, all that old school stuff. We never did that kung fu flailer stuff because nobody wants to accidentally bust a fellow fan’s nose. I caught one to the face a few years ago from some flailer and ever since I get super irritated by that shit. It’s just dumb and it makes the old circle pit way more dangerous. Hell man, I took my 14 year old son to AF and Hatebreed a few weeks ago, and it was great, but that’s because the flailers weren’t doing much. I wouldn’t put him in a pit with those jackholes...
I’m friendly with a bunch of dud es in the punk/hardcore/oi scene, guys like Mike Oxley, the dudes from Thug Riot, No Coast Criminals, etc. They don’t like that shit either. If you want to fight, start a fight, don’t just run around flailing indiscriminately and then be surprised when a big-ass meat-eater like me doesn’t like getting socked in the face...
I’m betting you and I would get along fabulously though, I love going to shows. I’m from Denver, but I’ve bee n in Phoenix for about five years and have just started really l0 oking to see local shows again...
